PA Turnpike – The Review (Part 1 of 6)
Over the next few days we will be posting our thoughts on the Turnpike from the perspective of a driving enthusiast.
Note the use of the word enthusiast. For a standard commuter or traveler, the observations we point out may not apply. In many instances, what the aforementioned driver may be seeking may be the opposite of what an enthusiast is seeking. For example, while many would avoid a highly technical roadway, an enthusiast would seek it out.
With that in mind a review of the first informal section of the Turnpike, The Delaware Valley.
The first 60 miles of the PA Turnpike puts you on an interesting mix of 21st century roads and 20th century roads with 21st century expectations. If you are enjoying (term is used very loosely) this stretch on a weekday, be prepared for frequent and rapid changes in speed, dangerous lane changes, and unclear shifts in traffic patterns as vehicles enter and exit. All that said, if you are enjoying it (term used literally) at night or on the weekend, be prepared for long open stretches (State Troopers heavily patrol this area) of tarmac in relatively good condition. The newly improved sections are a true limited access highway of the 21st century. They are nicely banked, clean, quiet, fast, and spacious. The eastern border of this area is the Delaware River/NJ Boarder and the western border are the foothills of the Appalachians in the Morgantown Area.

Interesting concept and excellent presentation!! Love the video and the music. This type of endeavor is certainly worthy of a quality beer or 2, so visit a nice pub and have a few on me! 🙂

My one regret was not having the time to include a stop at Victory Brewpub on our way home. World class beer and excellent food…a mere 15 minutes off the pike from the Downingtown exit. Cheers!
