The Woz and the Art of Toyota Repair

February 2, 2010

The Woz
The theory that there is something wrong with certain Toyota models beyond a pedal issue is intriguing, yet hard to conceptualize and based on nothing but circumstantial evidence and some mild assumptions.  Some of the evidence that Toyota has yet to truly (publicly) identify the cause of the issue is that a number of models with known unintended and uncontrollable acceleration issues have been left out of the recall (including the Lexus ES350).  Suddenly, this theory has a brand new supporter, and one that knows a little about what may be at the heart of the issue.

Meet Steve Wozniak.

Read on to find out about Wozniak’s findings as well as breaking information on the Federal Investigation into Toyota.

There is a reason for some rules…

Warning:  This is going to be a rant thread.  Consider yourself forwarned.

I am a patient man.  This is not idle boasting, I have actually been commended on this trait by numerous others including work supervisors (that makes it official!).  As this is a personality trait, it is innate and has been developed throughout my life.  However, I also actively cultivate it as a necessary skill for my professional life.

And yet I too find myself yelling at my steering wheel.  All.  The.  Time.  As different scenarios occur that incite my wrath I intend to seek catharsis on this very blog, allowing the anger to flow out of me, through my keyboard, and into your face.

Oh, and I will also offer the (almost always) simple solution to preventing these interruptions to my serenity for all to read and understand.  Keep in mind that this is opinion and I know that there will be those who have differing opinions.  It just so happens that they are wrong.

Toyota Recall – What is the fallout for Toyota?

January 28, 2010
by

The most tragic part of the sales suspension and recalls is that people had to die for us to get here.  Yet an unseen tragedy is developing before us.  Regardless of what is causing the issue and how much fault Toyota Corporate holds, those that will suffer most hold no fault at all.  Who are they?  Your local Toyota dealership.

The dealers will likely be caught in a Catch-22.  Right now, they are unable to sell their most popular vehicles, yet other profitable vehicles (typically hybrids) are still available for sale.  Additionally, any recall results in more service calls, a busy service staff, and guarantee reimbursement from the manufacture. Yet what is the long term impact?

Cliff Notes:
Toyota under investigation by National Highway Transportation Safety Administration

Employee of NHTSA leaves and joins Toyota

Deal worked out to severely limit investigation

This probably is NOT related to the current issues, but it is still fairly ugly.

It seems that the Toyota Recall has once again expanded, now totaling over 5.3 million vehicles.

Later today we will cover the potential fallout for Toyota, their dealers, their employees, and the public.

What is This Blog About? Every Road Taken up til now…

January 27, 2010

Evening everyone.  What with the incredible surge in traffic we’ve experienced since Paul posted his articles about the Toyota sales halt (and his subsequent theories) we thought it appropriate to elaborate on who we are and why we’ve made this blog.  Believe it or not automotive news coverage was not initially on our radar, and although we shortly added it to the site we’d still prefer to focus on bringing you articles, stories, reviews, etc that follow our vision.  What am I rambling about?  Well, you can always click on our “about” page to get an idea.  Follow me after the jump for some highlights from our so far short history, and a bit more explanation of what we’re all about.

Breaking – Toyota Recall Going Global

January 27, 2010
by

The Detroit Bureau is reporting that the Toyota Recall is preparing to go GLOBAL.

Some interesting tidbits in this article that I will address later, but I believe this recall will have to deal with the pedal position sensor and the signals it is sending to the ECU.
